Family questions
Answers for family and friends following an emergency visit in EDFlow: why you can't see test results, whether you can call the emergency department, and what to do when the link says too many devices.
Tell a staff member now
Don't wait for a reply on your phone. Tell any nurse or staff member right away, or press your call bell. If you're in the waiting room, go to the triage desk.
If this is an emergency, call 911. For health advice, call Health811 at 811.
Health information belongs to the person you're following. The family view only shows where they are in their visit, rough waits while they wait to be seen, and who is caring for them. Their care team talks with them about results. You can ask them directly.
Staff usually can't give updates over the phone, to protect privacy. The family view is the way to follow the visit. If you're worried about the person right now, call the hospital or speak to staff in person. In an emergency, call 911.
Each link works on up to 3 devices. Ask the person who shared for a new link of your own.
The person stopped sharing, the time they chose ran out, or they left the department. See When updates end.
The care team paused updates for now. Please call the hospital or speak with the care team.
Many parts of a visit, like tests and waiting for results, show as "Care in progress" in the family view. It doesn't mean anything good or bad.
No. Only the person you're following can send requests. You can ask them, or speak with staff in person.
The view says, for example, "Times are shown in Toronto time (ET)." That's the hospital's time zone.
After the person leaves, you may be asked three short questions about the updates. It's optional.
