Visit cards and sign-in help
Print a EDFlow visit card at a registered print station, approve staff-assisted sign-in with the patient's pairing code, and reissue a lost card, without staff ever holding a usable patient credential.
A patient's card or wristband label is their key to EDFlow. Staff never see the QR code or the visit code in clear, and never sign in on a patient's behalf. That keeps a usable patient credential off every staff screen.
Printing a card
Cards print automatically after triage at most sites. To send one by hand:
- Open the patient and choose Send card to printer.
- Choose the layout (wallet card, thermal label, full sheet), who gets the card (patient, guardian, substitute decision-maker, youth-confidential), and a registered print station.
- Send. The page shows the job status and the code masked, like
KB••-••RM.
The printed card has the QR code, the visit code, the hospital name, the patient's initials only, bilingual instructions and the not-an-emergency line.
- A job sent within 15 minutes of issue reuses the same card.
- After 15 minutes, sending means Reissue: a new code, and the old one stops working at once. Tick Also sign out devices if the card was lost or given to the wrong person.
- Printing on a confidential visit needs a recorded unmask.
Who gets the card
| Recipient | What changes |
|---|---|
| Patient | Standard wording |
| Guardian | "Your child" wording; "Is this who you're here with?" |
| Substitute decision-maker | "The person you're caring for" wording |
| Youth-confidential | The patient's own wording, sensitive tests hidden, sharing off, no guardian access |
| Not appropriate for EDFlow | No card; the visit is excluded |
Staff-assisted sign-in (pairing)
When a patient needs help signing in:
The patient opens "Get help signing in"
On their own phone. It shows a 6-character code and a QR, valid for a few minutes.
You open the visit
From the board. Opening is recorded.
Enter or scan the code
Choose Approve pairing code, enter or scan the code, pick a text size for the patient, and Approve.
The patient's phone signs in and asks "Is this you?". The code only works on the phone that showed it.
Lost or wrong card
Open the patient, Sharing & access → Visit card → Reissue. Choose whether to sign out every device already on the visit (this also ends their family links and text subscriptions). See Lost cards and access.
