Confidential and unknown patients
Set or clear the confidential (no-information) flag in EDFlow, confirm a provisional identity for an unknown patient, and what each does to the board, cards and family sharing.
Confidential patients
A patient who asks that no information be given about them (for example a public figure or someone at risk) is marked confidential.
| What changes | Effect |
|---|---|
| Board, palette, patient page | Name shows as Confidential. Show asks for a reason and is recorded as an unmask |
| Family sharing | Unavailable; existing links end. The patient sees only "Sharing isn't available for this visit" |
| Cards | Printing needs a recorded unmask first |
| Patient app | Works as usual for the patient |
Set it: patient → Sharing & access → Confidential. Needs privacy.flag.
Clear it: needs a reason, because it reduces privacy. Clearing is recorded as an unmask.
Unknown or unconfirmed patients
A patient who arrives unidentified (for example an unconscious trauma patient) is registered with a provisional identity.
- The board shows a provisional marker.
- No card prints, and nobody can sign in: a correct sign-in shows "Your visit isn't ready yet. Staff will give you a card when it is."
- Once you confirm the identity (Confirm identity), cards and sign-in work as usual.
Restricted view and "not appropriate"
Clinical staff can also set a restricted patient view (the patient sees only the stage, care team and requests) or mark EDFlow not appropriate for the visit (no card, no access). Clerks see these flags but don't set them.
