Family links
See and revoke a visit's family links in EDFlow, lock sharing, pause updates to break news in person, and understand why sharing is unavailable for some visits.
Patients create family links themselves, on their own phone, with consent. Staff don't create links. You can see them, revoke them and lock sharing when needed.
See a visit's links
Patient → Sharing & access. Each link shows the patient's private label, when it was created, when it ends, devices used and when it was last viewed. You never see the link itself.
Revoke a link
Tap Revoke on the link. Every device on it switches to "These updates have ended" within seconds. Revoking is audited.
Lock sharing
Lock sharing stops the patient creating links and ends the current ones. Use it, for example, when a patient asks you to, when there is a custody or safety concern, or when the visit becomes confidential. The patient sees only "Sharing isn't available for this visit", never the reason.
Sharing is also unavailable automatically for confidential visits, restricted patient views, youth-confidential cards and paused visits.
Pausing updates
To break difficult news in person, Pause updates. Every patient and family screen freezes and shows "Updates are paused. Please speak with the care team or call the hospital." No notification is sent. After you've spoken with the family, record Family has been informed, then resume updates or leave them paused.
What family see
The family view shows the family stage, the estimate only while waiting to be seen (or for a bed where allowed), first names and roles, and hospital information. Never tests, results, requests, location or the summary. See What family can see.
